Lets break down the basics of what you should look for in your brush:
SOFT – enough said! We recommend soft or extra soft toothbrushes for everyone. Medium and hard bristle brushes do not clean your teeth any better than soft bristled brushes and can actually damage your teeth and gums. Brushes with harder bristles can contribute to enamel erosion, tooth discoloration, and gum irritation. Soft or extra soft bristles are safe, extremely efficient, and recommended by most dental professionals (including us)!
Manual vs. Electric
While both manual and electric toothbrushes (when used properly) can clean your teeth well, we prefer electric toothbrushes, specifically Sonicare brand. Power or electric toothbrushes remove more plaque than manual brushes and provide more stimulation to your gums. However, the most important thing about what type of toothbrush you have is how often and well you are using it – we recommend twice daily brushing for 2 minutes.
In addition to choosing the best toothbrush type, it is important to know when to get rid of your old one. It is recommended that you replace your toothbrush every three months or more often if you have been sick. This practice not only tosses out dirty brushes, but it eliminates bent or flat bristles that are no longer effective cleaning agents.

While your toothbrush is extremely important for cleaning your teeth, it needs help! Make sure you are using toothpaste, floss, and an alcohol free mouth rinse in addition to your brushing routine. Also, it is vital to see a registered dental hygienist at regular intervals for continuing care hygiene!
